Learn the Reasons Why It Is Important to plant now

Do not delay, this is the best time to plant!june-1.png

June Gloom has arrived and while it may dampen our outdoor fun for just a few weeks under the usually sunny Southern California sky the June Gloom marks one of the best times to plant trees and shrubs of all sizes.

Now you're probably asking, 'how could overcast skies make this month one of the best times to plant?'

A quick breakdown you can use to amaze your friends, family members, and neighbors is that the June Gloom weather pattern in Southern California creates ideal conditions conducive to amazing plant growth. The cool nights and the overcast yet humid mornings that give way to sunny and warm afternoons are the near perfect conditions planting trees and shrubs of all varieties. If you're looking to amaze people even further, check out the extra tips from our certified nursery professionals.

Extends the planting season
This weather pattern extends the planting season, which provides newly planted trees and shrubs an extended period of time to establish their root system before the temperature cranks up a notch in July, August, and September. With an established root system, the newly planted tree or shrub will focus its energy on top growth.

Humidity helps
Newly planted trees and shrubs do not want to be planted in hot and/or dry conditions. Those conditions will force the newly planted tree or shrub to work even harder to establish a root system. Plus, many of the trees and shrubs homeowners are wanting to plant will need water. With overcast conditions and humidity, which is just water vapor, the newly planted tree can ease into its new home in your backyard without having to work hard to establish a root system. Plus, the cooler weather, overcast days, and humidity give all of us an opportunity to cut back on our water usage.

Filtered light
We all know that when it is hot outside the last thing you want to do is to stand under the sun for hours. You'll 100% be uncomfortable while possibly getting burned and thirsty. Now we are lucky because we can run back into our homes or jump into the ocean. Our trees aren't as lucky and they have to take those conditions every day in throughout the summer. Established trees can handle these conditions, while newly planted trees can have a hard time. Planting now allows the tree to minimize its transplant shock. The forecast calls for 70 degrees all week. That's obviously much better than those summer days when it can get up to the mid-90s.

Give Your Trees A Fertilizer Boost
There are ways to give the material in our landscape a boost during this beneficial time and that would be with a specialized fertilizer designed to trigger new root hair growth and stronger cell development while helping the tree grow faster and recover quicker from stressful events. At Moon Valley Nurseries we have our Super Charged Moon Juice. It also enhances the ability of plants to ward off diseases, possible infestations and infections from outside sources. It helps trees and plants both prevent and recover from stresses caused by extreme heat, frost, freeze, transplanting or other stressful events. In addition, we also have our Super Palm Juice which will help produce thicker, stronger trunks while maintaining the fronds with a healthy, dark green appearance resulting in lush, dense crowns, our Moon Green which is an easy to use solution for yellowing trees and plants, and our Moon Dust which provides Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potash (Potassium) for a perfect horticultural ratio that will benefit virtually every plant in your landscape.
