3 Water-Wise Mediterranean Trees For Your Landscape

Written by Garrett Cleverly | 7/30/2015

Water-wise trees aren’t exclusive to just desert trees. As we continue to look at ways to cut back on your water usage here are three unique water-wise trees that are native to the Mediterranean region.

Fruiting Olive
Thriving in sun light, the Fruiting Olive tree produces fruit in the later parts of the year and blooms creamy white flowers in the spring. These trees can produce large amounts of shade and can grow to a hardy medium size. This tree can be trimmed into several shapes to fit any landscape or design.

Italian Cypress
Looking to add a little of Tuscany to your landscape? Then the Italian Cypress is the ideal pick for you. This unique evergreen tree is low-maintenance which makes them an ideal tree to plant around pools, fountains, or other waterside applications. The Italian Cypress will display a dense growth habit with multiple upright-growing branches. They are ideal in narrow spaces, establishing borders or property lines.

Mediterranean Fan Palm
It may seem far-fetched, but the Mediterranean Fan Palm is native to the Mediterranean, which makes it only one of two palms native to that region. Its unique appearance, compact size, and minimal pruning make this unique palm a great addition to any landscape. The Mediterranean Fan Palm is able to thrive in the hotter months and can survive periods of freezing weather with little or no damage.
