It’s exciting to landscape your yard, carefully choosing plants to show your property to its best advantage! Nowhere is this more important than in the front yard. The front yard is the face your property shows to visitors and passersby and choosing the right trees can really improve your curb appeal.

When you’re trying to decide on trees for your front yard, there are many factors to consider. Look at what’s doing well in your neighbors’ yards, and that may spark some ideas for you. Then you need to decide your priorities. Do you want shade? Privacy? A pop of bright color? Once you know the look you want, it will be easier to narrow down your options.

  • A Bloodgood Japanese Maple will turn heads. These trees grow 15 to 20 feet tall and have beautiful red foliage, not just in the fall, but also in the spring and summer. Because they’re not extremely tall, they won’t overshadow the rest of your landscaping, and because they prefer partial shade, they can thrive in places where other trees don’t grow as well.
  • The Chaste Tree is unusual because of its blue flowers. They bloom during the summer, providing some contrasting color when everything else is green. The tree is lovely even when it’s not blooming, though, because it’s got an attractive branch structure and grey-green foliage.
  • The Weeping Cherry is dramatic and stunning. The sweeping branches cascade toward the ground, and the tree is lush with beautiful blossoms in the spring. Weeping Cherry trees grow to be about 25 feet tall at full maturity.
  • Ficus Indian Laurel Trees offer privacy. These medium to tall trees are evergreen and can be cut into many different shapes. They quickly grow into a thick canopy, so they’re great for creating a privacy fence.
  • The Oleander is a shrub that can grow as tall as a tree. The blossoms on an Oleander are gorgeous and fragrant and come in pink, white, or red. Oleanders grow dense and upright, so in addition to color and aesthetic appeal, they can be used to provide privacy to your property.
