Creating An Inviting Outdoor Space For Your Customers

Written by Paul Popoff | 7/22/20 3:48 PM

With everything going on in the world with COVID-19 many businesses are forced to change the way they operate to stay in business. We are seeing many in the restaurant industry rapidly changing their business model to accommodate the new safety guidelines. One of the biggest shifts is the ability to continue serving customers by creating outdoor seating. This is not without its problems, however, especially during the warmer summer months. There are options to help cool areas such as shade tents, umbrellas, shade sails, and more. None of these options however are as aesthetically pleasing as greenery. If your business has decided to offer outdoor seating you can rent or buy trees directly from Moon Valley Nurseries and create the patio seating area your customers will love.

3 Perfect Trees For Pots on Patios

Palm Trees:

This is a broad category because nearly all palm trees work great when planted in pots. Palm trees are not a first thought for shade but believe it or not there are many varieties with thick full crowns that will be just as aesthetically pleasing as they are effective in cooling outdoor spaces.

Piru Queen Palm

The Piru Queen Palm is only available from Moon Valley Nurseries. Grown from our perfect mother trees, these palms are unique when compared with other Queen Palm varieties. These trees have thicker crowns providing more shade. Their unique trunks are appealing to the eye, and these palms are perfect for large planters or pots.

King Alexander Palm

The Improved King Alexander Palm is another great choice. These have either singular trunks or multiple trunks growing from the base. This style gives great amounts of cooling shade throughout the warmer months. If your restaurant has that tropical flair this will set you apart from the competition.

Kentia Palm

Smaller palms are perfect for being planted in pots or raised beds. The Kentia is another one that comes in singular trunks or with multiple trunks. These thick crown palm trees give cooling shade and beautiful tropical appeal. Our improved Kentia Palms are grown perfectly by our growers for our area. These can be rented or purchased and delivered by any of our Moon Valley Nursery locations.

3 Perfect Shade Trees For Pots on Patios.

Ficus nitida – Indian Laurel

The Ficus nitida also called Indian Laurel are perfect for giving shade tree and cooling sitting areas. We have been perfecting the growing of these trees and others for over 25 years. These can be planted as a tree style with a large crown giving shade or line up containers or planters and use the Column Style and create the perfect Hollywood Style Hedge

Italian Cypress

The Italian Cypress is a column style growing tree. Thick and dense these trees can be used to create a line of shade and mixed with other palms in the same sitting area to create a beautiful environment for your customers in which to enjoy their meals. These are grown in many different sizes and like all the trees and more listed, Moon Valley Nurseries can deliver and install these, or they can be rented if your seating arrangements are temporary.

Podocarpus

The Improved Podocarpus are perfect for planters and pots. These trees can be grown in a column or in a tree form if trimmed up. These trees are narrower than a traditional umbrella style tree which makes them perfect for sitting areas such as restaurant patios. Mix these with palms or other trees mentioned in this article and create something special for your patrons.
