In celebration of Earth Day, Moon Valley Nurseries donated a Sissoo tree to the Discovery Is Growing Gardens at Simis (DIGGS) program at Madison Simis Elementary School.

The DIGGS program started 17 years ago at Madison Simis. It includes in-classroom instruction and activities, outside gardening, composting, and natural world exploration where science concepts are reinforced. More than 900 students in grades kindergarten thru 4th-grade participate in the yearly program by growing vegetables and flowers in 63 raised garden beds.

"The DIGGS program at Madison Simis is a wonderful and amazing program and we couldn't be more honored to donate a wonderful Sissoo tree that will provide much-needed shade for the students when they tend to their gardens," said Moon Valley Nurseries.

"Madison Simis students, teachers, and parents are so grateful to the Moon Valley Nursery.  They have become a friend in need.  With our brand new construction coming to completion, we are in sore need of improvements to our soil and new plantings," said Madison Simis Principal Dr. Joyce Flowers. "Moon Valley has stepped up in a big way, helping our school gardening program, DIGGS.  Thank you, Moon Valley Nursery for your generosity and kind contributions and helping future botanists!"
