Plant and Tree Care

Fall is almost here, and the days are cooling off in Southern California. This is a good time of year to take care of all the trees and plants in your yard.

Trimming trees and pruning plants are an important part of keeping them in good health. Make sure to only get rid of what is needed so that you don’t leave them vulnerable to disease or infection. When trimming them, only cut what you need to remove.

Pro Advice: Never cut more than 20% of current plant growth.

Once everything is freshly trimmed, you can add nutrients to all the trees and plants. Fall is a good time to fertilize the landscape so that it is all prepared for the winter.

Our Moon Valleyʼs Moon Dust is a fertilizer blended with the perfect mix of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium. The blend is great to use on any plant found in your yard.

Moon Valleyʼs Super Charged Moon Juice is a liquid supplement that stimulates the root system. This can help maintain your trees and plants through heat, frost, and even help fend off disease. This fertilizer can be used many times throughout the year.

Lawn Care

Now that the Southern California sun is not bearing down on lawns so hard, this is a good time to prep it. The hot months have put your lawn under some stress and it would benefit from some help. Moon Valley’s Moon Royale Turf Fertilizer helps your grass come back to life. The fertilizer will make the grass greener in a matter of days. It also helps fend off insects and weeds.

Best Trees to Plant in the Fall

Crape Myrtle

The Crape Myrtle tree blooms into a variety of colors including red, white, purple, and pink. The leaves offer an orange-red hue that will catch the eye of every passerby in the fall season.  It is a medium-sized, flowering tree that is easy to maintain year-round. The Crape Myrtle does great in the heat of Southern California and keeps its color from spring to fall.

Raywood Ash

The Raywood Ash tree loves the sun and grows in a circular form which creates nice spots of shade on its surroundings. Along with the shade that it provides the landscape, the coloring matches the autumn season perfectly when its leaves turn to a burgundy-red color in the fall.
