If you are looking to turn your pool into a getaway, we can help! Adding trees around a pool can help create privacy, add shade, and increase property value. When looking to add trees to a pool area, it is important to look for trees that have little cleanup, non-invasive roots, and add to the feel and look you want. Below are a few of our top trees to plant poolside.

Live Oak (Quercus virginiana):

Also known as the Southern Live Oak, this large evergreen clean tree will bring a classic look and much needed shade to your pool parties in our hot summers. With age, the trunk will darken while the narrow oval leaves will stay shiny, dark green on top and whitish beneath. Our Live Oaks are extremely drought tolerant and require low water use with practically no special care.

Magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora):

These trees will add character to your pool area with its large, creamy-to-white white blooms contrasting with its large, glossy green leaves. Not only are the flowers beautiful, but their pleasant fragrance is a bonus. Magnolias are clean trees so there is hardly any litter to deal with. Magnolia grandifloras tend to grow more upright than wide, making it possible to work in any size space.

Piru Queen Palm (Syagrus romanzoffiana ‘piru’):

Brings a tropical look and feel to any poolside yard! This durable evergreen palm has classic feathery, glossy palm fronds that are bright green in color. Piru Queen Palms have very low water requirements and only need occasional seasonal trimming. They are custom grown at our local farms to handle hot summers and windy days.

Windmill Palm (Trachycarpus forunei):

This palm is ideal for anyone looking to create a tropical or resort-style look and feel to their backyard and pool. Windmill Palms are small to medium sized fan palms with dark green fronds. Trachycarpus forunei’s unique and slender trunks are other features that help this neat, calming palm provide interest year-round.

Livistonia Palms:

These palm varieties are slow growing and thrive in full sun exposure. They feature drooping, weeping fronds that give an attractive focal point to any space. Our favorites varieties of Livistonia palms are the Ribbon Fan Palm (Livistonia decipiens) and the Chinese Fountain Palm (Livistonia chinensis). Ribbon Palms have fan-shaped fronds that split into long, delicate ribbons that are green on top and bluish beneath. The Chinese Fountain Palm had roundish, wide, bright green leaves that droop strongly at the outer edges. These palms are easy to care for and low maintenance, giving you a beautiful outdoor escape with hardly any effort.
