Spring is here, and this is the best time to start planting beautiful trees in Houston. Warmer weather and longer days are waking up our trees of spring. Trees can create a better living environment. We like to plant trees to create privacy and lifelong memories, and they will always be a welcome addition to the Houston landscape. Before we know it, we will be experiencing warm weather conditions. When the temperatures rise, we are going to want to find a nice resting spot - resting under a beautiful shade tree is a perfect place!

Trees of Spring Provide Shade, Privacy, and Beauty!

All types of trees can provide a burst of color, shade, and they can help increase property value, too! You can find the perfect tree for the perfect spot in your landscape at any of our nursery locations throughout Houston.

Camphor (Cinnamomum camphora):
These evergreen shade trees thrive in humid areas, so they are perfect for Houston! In late spring, fragrant yellow flowers bloom profusely, creating a beautiful contrast with its lush, dense green foliage. Some people enjoy crushing the leaves, which can induce a therapeutic aroma. Specimen size trees can provide plenty of shade, too! We like to plant them for shade and to block unwanted views in style.

Chinquapin Oak (Quercus muehlenbergii):
These are excellent shade trees that thrive in a location with full sun exposure. People love their shiny green foliage and wide-spreading crown that provides plenty of shade. In the fall, the foliage turns to a golden color that can bring seasonal color to our area. This long-lived tree is a desirable street or shade tree for Houston landscapes.

Mexican Oak (Quercus polymorpha):
Enjoy the maximum shade coverage a Mexican oak tree provides. This south Texas native features a spreading canopy with exotic green foliage that adds plenty of curb appeal and beauty, too! It can lose most of its leaves towards the end of winter, which sets the stage for seasonal colors. The new growth of beautiful bronze to pinkish-bronze leaves transition to vibrant green.

Magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora):
Magnolia trees offer large glossy foliage and sweet, fragrant blooms – adding a touch of elegance to any yard in Houston! They thrive in our area and can provide plenty of shade wherever they are planted. There are several different species available. Visit your nearest Big Tex Tree Nurseries location, and allow our nursery pros to help you find the perfect tree.

Date Palm (Phoenix dactylifera):
Plant a date palm in your landscape and add instant curb appeal! These elegant palms are commonly found at upscale resorts and shopping areas and look amazing in residential properties. Line them up in rows, and they can provide a cool umbrella of shade. We have resort-style palms available featuring diamond-cut trunks that add impressive formality and presence to any location.
