Best Memorial Day Weekend Trees
Crape Myrtle
Drought-tolerant, the Crape Myrtle tree craves the heat and may bloom for long periods of time, with large clusters of delicate flowers. Crape Myrtle varieties can transform neighborhoods, public parks, shopping malls, and resorts with their colorful flowers that range from pink to red, and white to purple!
You can plant this attractive Crape Myrtle tree nearly any time of the year and with annual to occasional maintenance and clean-up. We only sell Crape Myrtle varieties that are custom-grown and mildew-resistant. Tipu
If you're looking for both shade and color, the Tipuana Tipu tree should be at the top of the list of trees to check out when you come into the nursery! The Tipu tree is one of the most popular trees we offer at Moon Valley Nurseries. It can be found all over the valley, and we are still always planting more!
The Tipu is a very fast-growing tree that has an upright-growth pattern that creates, and provides, a large area of shade for your home and yard. These trees are also drought-tolerant, once established, and can handle even the hottest summer days.
Coolest part about the Tipu tree? It blooms into a vibrant display of yellow flowers lasting from late spring and into early summer that contrasts beautifully with its feathery green foliage.
Magnolia
Every variety of Magnolias that we grow are a popular choice with our customers at Moon Valley Nurseries. Many are drawn to the Magnolia's softball-sized and fragrant white flowers, which are truly breathtaking to see in bloom. The flowers bloom throughout the summer and fall and they attract many of our pollinating friends like hummingbirds and butterflies.
The flowers aren't the only thing that makes the Magnolia a popular tree for our region. Many of our customers love the attractive glossy leaves and the Magnolia's ability to produce a thick canopy for summer shade relief. Magnolias are super easy to grow, and they can handle even the hottest of summer days.
Southern Live Oak
The Southern Live Oak is often called “the Mighty Oak of the South”, but that does not mean that it has to stay in the South. This oak tree grows great in nearly all of Southern California. All it needs is to be planted somewhere that it can soak up the sun all day!
This is a clean shade tree with dense dark green foliage that can add plenty of shade in your yard. This large evergreen oak tree is noted for its beauty and strength. The Southern Live Oak is extremely drought-tolerant and requires very little water, once established.
Majestic Ash
The Majestic Ash trees we have at Moon Valley Nurseries are far superior to what you will find anywhere else. These are a grafted cultivar that has been custom-grown by Moon Valley Nurseries for decades. This highly sought-after shade tree is also easy to maintain and grows fast, so you will be covered in shade in no time!
What makes these trees even more spectacular is they do not produce a seed thanks to the expert growing process. That means minimal clean-up throughout the year. During average winters, the foliage will stay all through the season. Once established, this is a great water-wise tree and can be beneficial for erosion control if you have a hilly home in the Southern California area.
