Watering Tips
During the winter, the days are shorter and colder, which means your trees and plants will not need as frequent watering as they would during warmer parts of the year. Because of this, now is a great time to address your landscape’s watering needs. Mature and established trees, two years and older, will need less frequent water, but they will still need to be given adequate water each time it is done. This means watering the entire root ball down to a depth of 36” or more. You can get more information here. The drip lines should all be at the edge of the canopy. Younger trees that have been recently planted should follow our watering guide here after their initial transplant watering.
Fertilization
It is not recommended that you feed your trees with a high nitrogen fertilizer during the winter months. Instead, it would be best if you used Super Charged Moon Juice; this can be used as little as once a month, or for best results, can be used weekly on all your trees, palms, shrubs, vines, and ground covers. Super Charged Moon Juice is like a shot of adrenaline for your plants. It encourages healthy root growth during the wintertime. It supports water uptake as well as an increase in the utilization of the natural nutrients that soils hold. Once warmer weather shows up, your landscape will be ready to take off and begin growing strong and healthy through the next growing season.
Soil and Water Condition is another excellent product to add to your landscape routine and use during this time of the year. It helps to break up tough soils while also releasing the natural nutrients our soils hold. By utilizing Soil and Water Conditioner 3-6 times per year, you not only help break down tough soil, but you also reduce the chances of water building up on hard clay and causing overwatering issues within your landscape.
Pruning Trees & Plants
Dormant trees and plants are best pruned when they are dormant, and the leaves have fallen off. When trimming trees, it is crucial to never take off more than 1/3 of any tree or plant at a time. Trimming more than necessary is dangerous for your landscape and can cause more harm than good. When you trim, also be sure to utilize Super Charged Moon Juice to help the plants and trees recover from the stress, keep them healthy, and the root system growing strong through the dormant period. Other evergreen trees and plants should not be trimmed this time of year. It is best to wait until Spring to trim, but again, no more than 1/3 of the tree or plant at a time.
