Earth Day is here! For many of us, Earth Day is every day. Of course, there are times when we need a little reminder that we have a responsibility to contribute to a healthier planet. We celebrated the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, as a way to encourage environmental awareness. We can celebrate this day every day. We make it easy! At Moon Valley Nurseries, we grow and sell trees that can have a positive impact on the environment! Let’s celebrate together!

Help our Environment and Plant More Trees

Trees act as the lungs of our planet, so we need trees to breathe. They create the air we breathe and filter air pollution. It is no secret that one of the best things we can do for our local environment, and for our planet is to plant more trees. Let’s work together to improve our quality of life. The more trees we plant, the better our life can become! Below are some amazing ways trees help our environment.

  • Improve air quality
  • Produce oxygen
  • Store carbon, which can counteract the harmful byproducts of fossil-fuel burning
  • Clean the air by trapping dust, pollen, and other pollutants.
  • Moderate the effects of sun and wind
  • Can greatly reduce air-conditioning costs when properly planted around homes and buildings
  • Can increase property value
  • Provide shelter and food for wildlife
  • The sight of trees has a relaxing effect
  • Can help lower heart rates and help reduce stress levels
  • Creates shade to provide relief from the blistering sun!

Professionally Planted Trees

We celebrate Earth Day every day. We do this by planting trees every single day, making our planet a better place! Let us do the work! We have a team that can professionally plant the best trees on earth for you! Below are some perfect trees to plant for Earth Day, and every day! Plant more trees and keep Las Vegas beautiful!

tipu tree (2)Tipu: These colorful trees are favorites for the massive amount of shade they can create. Besides the shade, when the blooms appear, they can create a show of golden color from spring to summer. The feathery, bright bluish-green foliage is an added attraction that helps to make these trees a valuable addition to any yard. Buy as big as you can for instant shade and curb appeal!

live_oak_logo-1Live Oak:  This evergreen is great for adding shade to any size property. They feature dense, gray/green foliage and a large spreading crown that can create a comfortable area in a landscape. Small wildlife will appreciate this tree, too. We like to install owl boxes and hang bird feeders. As a bonus, they can thrive in a landscape with little to no special care required!

Chinese ElmChinese Elm ‘True Green’: A specimen size tree can bring maximum shade coverage to your yard! Thanks to the wide, umbrella-shaped canopy, it is easy to enjoy the massive amount of shade. A family favorite, it can create an idyllic picnic spot for celebrating Earth Day and other special days. They thrive with full sun exposure, so they are a perfect tree for the Las Vegas area!

shumard_oak_Shumard Oak: Also called Red Oak, this classic-looking tree is prized for its ability to provide plenty of shade coverage. It features a wide spreading canopy that sits atop a large trunk. We like to plant them as shade trees, street trees, lawn trees or focal points. In late fall, the green leaves turn to a vibrant red color! An excellent water-wise tree for the Las Vegas area.

DD_Blanchard_SOUTHERN_MAGNOLIA_1335_650x650 (1)D.D. Blanchard Magnolia: This is a magnificent evergreen tree with an open-branched pyramidal form. They feature large, glossy dark green leaves and can bloom large, cup-shaped flowers in early summer. If you are looking for a tree that can provide excellent shade coverage, you will love this Magnolia tree. They get bonus points for being water-wise, heat tolerant, and cold hardy. Plus, they have excellent pest and disease resistance.
