Fall in love with your yard, again! Your landscape is starting to wake up from its slumber, and this is the perfect time to treat yourself and your yard with the plants that can set your heart aflutter! February means Valentine’s Day, and we grow and carry the plants for all the romantic lover’s out there. Roses, Gardenias, Hibiscus, Jasmine, Ferns, and the appropriately named Valentine Emu bush are available at our nurseries, ready to spread the love and so much more!

We know that not everyone makes a big deal out of Valentine’s Day. So if you have got the lovesick blues, you can plant them away with colorful flowers and other vibrant plants that can liven up any mood. No matter how you feel about this "Hallmark holiday," one thing is sure, gifting plants and trees is always going to be appreciated and can brighten up any space.

Moon Valley Nurseries has got you covered whether you want to make a loved one’s day special or you are in the mood to romanticize your garden.

RosesRoses (Rosa): Roses and chocolate, yep, those two go hand in hand on Valentine’s day. And while we do not sell chocolate, we do grow and sell many different rose varieties that are delivered fresh from our farms! The sight of a rose garden in bloom is a gift for all the senses. Roses are hungry, so February is also the time when feeding them with the proper fertilizer is essential so that they can thrive in your landscape. Supplying them with the appropriate fertilizer can also help them to be more resistant to disease and pests. As a bonus you get to spend time in your rose garden, taking full advantage of the generous reward of fragrant and beautiful blooms. Visit your nearest location and look at the beautiful roses for Valentine’s day! Why stop at Valentine’s day when you can pluck a rose for your loved one on other days too! Cal l your closest location for current varietal and seasonal offerings.

gardeniaGardenias (Gardenia jasminoides 'Veitchii'): Romance is in the air, and when in bloom, gardenias can fill your landscape with their hypnotic and alluring scent. Grow them in your landscape or a patio container so that everyone can enjoy their lovely fragrance. They are also an excellent cut flower so that you can make a spectacular floral arrangement and bring their intoxicating aroma indoors. As a bonus, these showy, white fragrant flowers are easy to grow and thrive in the Southwest.

arabian_jasmineJasmine (Jasminum and Trachelospermum genus): Fill your landscape with the sweet smell of jasmine. This calming fragrance can be a remedy for stress, anxiety, and depression, so it may be able to help you beat the Valentine’s Day blues. Romantics, take note. It is also said to act as an aphrodisiac! We grow and sell a variety of jasmines, from Arabian to Asian to Star and Pink Jasmine, each with features that make them a prized addition to any landscape.

valentine_bushValentine Emu Bush (Eremophila maculata 'Valentine'): This colorful shrub is the perfect combination of beauty and low-maintenance. From January through March, it can produce hot pink to red tubular flowers – ideal for transforming the look of an arid landscape. These evergreen shrubs keep their good looks even when they are not in bloom thanks to the leaves with a purplish cast. They love to grow in a spot with full sun exposure, and they are extremely tolerant of heat so that they are perfect for growing in the hottest parts of the Southwest. Hummingbirds love this aptly named bush too, and if you live in the desert, you will love that it is also an excellent choice for adding flashy color in the dead of winter.

red_hibiscusHibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis): Red makes a statement. It is a color the exudes excitement and passion, whether in small doses or big, and it can bring drama (the good kind!) to landscapes. The large and bright flowers are tropical-looking, and at Moon Valley Nurseries, we grow and sell Hibiscus that bloom flowers in a wide variety of colors, including Pink and Red, two Valentine’s day favorites. Feel free to cut the flowers and place one in your lover’s hair or grow them in beautiful pottery and give the gift that keeps on giving. Of course, you can always use them as a colorful hedge or use them in a border with other colorful plants.

blue_hibiscus-2.pngBlue Hibiscus (Alyogyne huegelii): Try not to let Valentine’s day get you down. Instead, visit your nearest Moon Valley Nurseries and pick up a few Blue Hibiscus. Even though its common name has the word blue in it, the large flowers are usually purple, resemble the look of hibiscus flowers, and most importantly, may be able to help cheer you up. We like to use these drought-tolerant beauties to brighten up any arid landscape, and they are also an excellent choice for adding a beautiful accent color to semi-tropical yards.

foxtail_fernLeatherleaf, Asparagus and Foxtail Ferns (Rumohra adiantiformis, Asparagus densiflorus ‘Sprengeri,’ and Asparagus meyeri): Ferns make a beautiful gift, whether used as a houseplant, planted in a border, used as ground cover, mass planting, or as part of a tropical landscape. For instance, the Leatherleaf Fern is easy to care for and holds its deep green color under less-than-ideal conditions. The cut foliage of Leatherleaf fern can be used to add attractive texture to floral arrangements. The Asparagus Fern is actually a member of the asparagus family, though it features dense fern-like foliage that complements Sago palms, can be grown in borders and looks beautiful growing in hanging baskets in a porch or patio. Foxtail Ferns have long, upright, plume-like stems that hold soft, needle-like leaves and are an excellent choice for hanging baskets, growing in beautiful pots, planted in rock gardens, or mass planting. We also like to plant them with palms and in any tropical landscape. 50% OFF POTTERY COUPON
