General Landscape and Gardening Tips
Replace old, tired summer annuals with gorgeous fall flowers like Petunias, Pansies, Geraniums, and Hydrangeas.
Add more fall color with gorgeous plants and groundcovers like Variegated Euonymous, Red Tip Photinia, and Heavenly Bamboo to give your yard or garden added texture.
Prep your summer-beaten soil for transplants and new additions. Specific tips can be found here.
Prune most fall flowers and flowering shrubs to produce the most flowers. The longer nights and cooler temperatures will create the optimum growing conditions for your landscape.
Plant shrubs and evergreens. Early fall planting gives new trees and plants enough time to establish before the winter.
Use Moon Valley Supercharged Moon Juice. This will provide your trees and plants with the nutrients they need to grow and recover from the summer and maximize growth over the next few months. Fertilizing during fall will make trees and plants more durable to winter conditions and grow more vigorously when spring arrives.
Keep an eye on your watering schedule. As the weather cools, begin watering established trees and plants less frequently, but remember to continually check the soil for moisture.
Lawns
September is the best month to begin transitioning your lawn to winter rye grass. If you want a dense, dark green and healthy lawn thru the spring than the time to start is now.
The best lawn for overseeding is a dormant one. Even though the temperatures are starting to drop, the warm soil helps seed germinate faster. Weeds don’t grow or germinate during cool fall days, leaving your grass with absolutely no growth competition.
Start planning your lawn overseeding the steps you need to take to properly overseed your lawn to ensure a rich, healthy looking lawn throughout the Winter.
Pest Control
The cooler temperatures of the Fall bring out several pests that love to attack many popular Arizona trees and plants that populate our landscapes and gardens: the Leaf Skeletonizer, Aphids and Whiteflies.
Treat Skeletonizers with chemicals like Thuricide and Dipel Dust. For Aphids, insecticidal soap or Triple Action should do the trick. Whitefllies can be removed with Systemic Treatments, topicals and/or insecticidal soaps.
